Oven Baked Blackened Tilapia

  • 1 pound tilapia fillets
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Blackening Rub
    • 3 tbsp paprika
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 tbsp onion powder
    • 1 tsp black pepper
    • 1/2 to 1 tsp cayenne pepper
    • 1 tsp thyme
    • 1 tsp oregano
    • 1/2 tsp garlic powder


  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees
  • Combine paprika, salt, onion powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, dry thyme, dry oregano, and garlic powder
  • Line a sheet pan with foil and add 2 tbsp olive oil, brush it over the foil in any area that will have fish
  • Rinse and pat dry tilapia, brush with olive oil, and cover the fillets with the spices and rub it in on both sides
  • Place on the oiled pan and give a light spray of PAM and place in the preheated oven
  • Cook until nicely brown and flaky
    • about 10-11 minutes for big fillets and a minute or two less for small to medium fillets
